Tintiyana,

when do we get pass the self-congratulatory claims of "spotting" young Afro talent? Much love for the brains of Wenger but he knows there's more to the Weah story. The story, the football part at least, begins in the early 80s when a Cameroonian army general and football mogul, Semengue, in a mission in SL "spots" a boy who still has both legs and knows how to use them. A few months later Weah is in Yaounde, playing for the youth wing of Tonnerre Kalara Club (better known as TKC, Semengue's club). Needless to say, he impresses, moves to the main league, averages 2 goals/game. Fo real.

Part 2 begins mid-80s. Cameroonian football is on the rise, Canon wins the Champions league, the country wins the CAN in 84, the scouts arrive. But they are coming to check Emmanuel Kunde, a tough midfielder for Canon (with about 70% of the national team. Yes, national team players still played at home back then). Few outside of Cameroon had heard of Weah at the time, but when he learns scouts are in town to check Kunde, he drops 4 goals in the final league match vs Canon (with Kunde marking him most of the game). Frankly this is not a man who waited to be "spotted" and had he been South American or European...just imagine...
