What’s behind the attack on Khartoum?

Was it just Darfur rebels? What does it mean for politics in the Sahel? Getting behind what’s really going in Sudan usually takes some work. But accounts of the recent rebel attacks on the Sudanese capital, break with the usual obfuscation and misreporting. Here are some samples. This include a decent analysis from the New York Times — whose Nairobi correspondent usually fond of the word “tribe” and “bloodletting,” but makes the cut on this occasion; the Christian Science Monitor (the best of the American news outlets on Africa by far for me at present), and of course, the BBC and Al Jazeera.
