Africa is a Country

Poetry: Gabeba Baderoon

May 16, 2008 · No Comments

Gabeba Baderoon, born in South Africa, lives in State College, PA, and writes good poetry. Namechecked here and here, she is part of a resurgence of good poets in that country, ranging from Rustum Kozain, the veteran Jeremy Cronin to the market-savvy Lebo Mashile. For a sense of her wider impact, see here and here. More samples and more information here at her website. [The picture, above, was taken in late April this year, when I stopped over in State College, on an eventual 13-hour car journey to New York City.]
