The Kenyan-US combo (well a four-man band), Extra Golden, who penned a song (with an infectious beat) in honor of the US Presidential contender long before the Will.I.am celebrity-heavy produced “Yes we can,” will play Brooklyn’s Prospect Park this summer. Extra Golden visits the borough of Kings as part of the summer program of ‘Celebrate Brooklyn,’ the annual music series in Prospect Park. The full program for the series has just been released. This year’s program includes three-Africa themed dates: singer Miriam Makeba and bandleader-bassist Bakiti Khumalo (June 14), griot Salif Keita (June 21), and an ‘African Guitar Festival’ with, among others, Oliver Mthukudzi, Habib Koite and Daby Toure on August 3rd. Extra Golden will be part of the last gig. Full program here.
BTW, if you can’t wait for Extra Golden, you can listen to the song ‘Obama,’ sung in Luo — the language of Obama’s father — as well as a sample of their other music here.
[P.S. I had previously blogged about a fantasy African soundtrack for the Senator from Africa (er, Illinois) here.]
