To millions of US wrestling fans, Kofi Kingston is the first Jamaican wrestler in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). But his real identity is very different – because to his family and friends, he is Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah from Ghana. Most wrestling fans have probably never heard of the West African country, so the wrestling body decided fight fans would be more likely to embrace a wrestler from the land of Bob Marley and reggae music. And so desperate is Sarkodie-Mensah to become wrestling’s next superstar, he is willing to deny who he is.”I was actually born in Jamaica – to be honest with a name like Kofi a lot of people assume I was born in Ghana,” he says with a bad Jamaican accent, but doing his best to stay in character. … “I told him: ‘Kofi, your cousins watch you on TV in Ghana and want to know why you don’t say you’re from Ghana,’” [his mother] says. “He said: ‘Tell them it is business.’”

Jamaican and Ghanaian are indeed synonymous. Most of us are indigenous to Ghana. Our features are even similar. I love your Africa links. Big up.
Hi St Rachel,
I hope you noticed by posting the item I was trying to be ironic about that kind of ‘race’/identity politics. Thanks for reading and visiting my site though.
I am not impressed. As a Ghanaian woman, I was very ashamed when I read this article. However, this nothing new. I’ve met several of Ghanaians who pose as if they were Jamaicans. I don’t know what that’s all about!
Abena, the fact that there is a link between Jamaicans & Ghanians is not being mentioned to impress u, u are not important in the broad scheme of things, also if you knew more about the history of both countries you would find out a few things like this: in jamaica they eat & grow ACKEE guess what there are only a few countries that do that & one of them is Ghana. Evidently some of the slaves that were brough to Jamaica, came from Ghana & those slaves brought some of the native plants etc to Jamaica hence there is a link historically between the two countries. They did not do all this just to impress u Abena. Abena go read a book & learn something, u idiot. btw Abena as a British/Jamaican I am ashamed of you for your ignorant statement.
av bon readin a lot about jamaicans and ghanaians lately. Basically, most jamaicans are ghanaians. The bulk of jamaicans are the ancient coromantees, who were akans; that is ashantis’ fantis, akuapems, akyems, bonos and the rest who were taken as slaves to jamaica. Today, Akans forms more than 65percent of ghana’s population. They occupy the ashanti, eastern, western, central, and the bono ahafo regions of Ghana. Ghanaians and jamaicans shares derivatives of names, …kojo-cudjoe, kofi-cuffy, kwamina -quamin , kwasi -quesi.. Amd even mpre interesting is the folklore charatcer Ananse or anancy if u Jamaican ….
So basically, Ghanaians and Jamaicans are one people
