New York City’s Museum of Modern Art is hosting a retrospective of the best of 20 years worth of film distribution by Zeitgeist films. Included are two films with African themes: the German film Nirgendwo in Afrika (Nowhere in Africa) — a surprise choice indeed, for me at least since Chocolat, years earlier, dealt with those themes much better — and Haitain-born director Raul Peck’s excellent Lumumba (Peck’s second feature, Sometime in April, is hands down the definitive feature on the 1994 Rwandan genocide and its aftermath). Nonetheless, worth seeing both films.
