The Cool Kids: ‘Africa is what you wore … today’

From an exchange on-stage between ‘hip hop fetishists’ (or more derisively, hipster rap) Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids during their set at the Rock the Bolls Concert at Jones Beach Theater in Long Island this weekend:
‘… After they finished [their hit song '88,'], Mikey Rocks, the group’s primary rapper, noted the searing sun but said it wasn’t bothering him: “I am from Africa.”
“No, you are not,” his partner, Chuck Inglish, replied, laughing. “We are from Chicago, Illinois.”
Mr. Rocks then called attention to his T-shirt, half of which was covered in a colorful, African-inspired print that recalled hip-hop’s late ’80s flirtations with Afrocentrism. “Whatever you’re wearing,” he said, “That’s what you are for the day.” ..’
