The official competition for the 65th Venice Film Festival, starting at the end of the month, has two African films in official competition. Tariq Teguia’s “Gabbla” from Algeria/France, and Haile Gerima’s “Teza.” The synopsis of Gerima’s film from the German producer’s website:
Anberber has studied in Germany and returns post-graduate to Ethiopia. He is full of hope that he can support his country with his newly acquired knowledge. It’s a story about hope and disillusionment, about foreignness and homeland.
