I’ve praised Ramin Bahrani’s work before. A bit late, but here’s some good news: his new film “Goodbye Solo,” which subject matter has an African link, won the Critics Prize at the Venice Film Festival early last month and then made most critics’ picks at the Toronto Film Festival. Like I said before, I look forward to seeing it on the general circuit or an art house here in New York City.
Read the updates here and here. And here is Bahrani in New York Magazine‘s 40th anniversary issue included as one of six New Yorkers predicted to wow the city’s art and politics scenes forty years from now. I hope that’s not a jinx, because I remembered what happened to the really “smart” kids from the best schools and most athletic jocks from high school.
* Other belated good news: Haile Gerima’s “Teza” won the best screenplay at the Venice Film Festival. Tell that to Cannes. Rub it in.

I can’t wait to see goodbye Solo. I’ve been reading the buzz and it looks like it’ll be a good one. I also follow Bahrani’s work. I hear it will be opening at the Angelica at the end of March. Whewhoo!
