You can’t make this stuff up. Although I am not surprised anymore. This is too easy. The trailer (in a smattering of English and Dutch) for a new Dutch film set in the African darkness and called “Wit Licht” [translated: White Light] set to open in December in The Netherlands. The lead Marco Borsato is a terrible Dutch pop singer, playing a Dutch “chef and restaurant owner” who lives in an unnamed East African country, with his wife and son. First his wife dies, then his son’s best friend, an African boy, goes missing. The African boy is actually abducted by a local warlord and turned into a child soldier. You know what happens next. [This kid wears a wears a Holland football strip throughout the trailer. I am not sure if that's suppose to symbolize anything.] If you can read Dutch, see the film’s website.
“If you can read Dutch, see the film’s website.”
Thank goodness I can’t.
Great movie which accentuates the ongoing human drama in Africa. Here we are in the West dumping billions of euro’s on bailing out banks so we can keep on buying things we don’t need. Just think if we had used these funds in places like Darfur we could have ended the problems there forever. Sometimes its not the quality of the actors in a movie, but the message it conveys that counts.
