The music (and politics) of Hugh Masekela

The video for the first track, “Send Me,” of Hugh Masekela’s most recent album, Time. The song deals with contemporary South African politics. I’ve also been listening to the re-release of Home is Where the Music Is. Masekela, who along with Miriam Makeba and Abdullah Ibrahim, represent a now-aging generation of committed artists, continues to insert himself into the country’s politics. See here and here

Thank you for bringing this artist to my attention. I already knew Abdullah Ibrahim and Miriam Makeba but hadn’t heard of Hugh Masekela. Music sounds cool and of course lyrics are cool. If you like to see some commented music video clips you might want to visit my blog.
