No I’m not on a Malawian binge. What’s not to like about Malawi? It just happens that the only African subject of the Global Lives Project, a project to shoot 24 hours in the lives of 10 people from around the word, is from Malawi. The other places are Indonesia, Japan, Brazil and the United States.
Edith Kapuka, a 13 year-old girl, lives just outside of Zomba near Domasi Mission.
The idea with Global Lives Project is to create a range of exhibition platforms. The people behind the project are architects Roberto Corrêa in São Paulo and Gaurang Khemka in Hong Kong. The first two subjects were in San Francisco and Sao Paulo. The Malawian team are: Jason Price, Ya-Hsuan Huang, Elasto Chanza, Single Matawale, Jessie Levandov, and Harrsion Topp.
You can watch an 8-minute excerpt of the Malawi footage here, see stills here, and if you’re really have time watch all 24 hours here.
Oh, and they encourage people to get involved (click on “Get Involved”).
Thanks for the blogging!! Glad you enjoyed! We’re hoping to do more shoots in Africa later this year or next year–the response from around the world has been fantastic! We’re hoping also to do a showing of our work in Malawi sometime in the next six months as well. As an organization with no full-time staff, everything we do is dependent on volunteers, so if you want to organize another shoot or a screening, let us know!
Also, FYI, in the last few months we also finished up shoots in India and China. You can see new videos as they are uploaded here:
