We love Esau Mwamwaya, but Malawi’s got other music too. Like Biriwiri (Young Kay and Barry One) here doing “Pompo Pompo” (it will be on their album ‘ Umayitha’). And there’s a lot more at Malawianmp3. (Hey, I had to rep for Malawi: My little niece is Malawian-South African)

There is also this group,The Real Elements, who was the first Malawians to produce a hip hop record.Tying in with your Malian post, they do a track,Amazing, over a Habib Koite song.I was on the Malawian island,Likoma, once when the previous president,Bakili Muluzi, came for a visit. There I met this guy,Bhakithi Kool T.,who was the official rapper in his entourage. He did political praise poetry in a football commentator style, great stuff!
